Wowl! - Thunder City Takedown

WOWL! - THUNDER CITY TAKEDOWN

And now, for something completely different…

Wowl! is an elusive artist.  Originally from Edinburgh, he/she peddled their way over to Berlin to spread the instrumental goodness.  According to Urban Dictionary “‘Wowl’ is a mis-pronounciation of the word “Whale”. Commonly said by those with a strong Essex accent.”

If you fancy yourself as a Sherlock Holmes character, be my guest and discover more over at SL Records and Myspace.

Frankie & The Heartstrings - Hunger

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

HUNGER by FRANKIE & THE HEARTSTRINGS (@frankiestrings )

Not technically new Scottish music like, but Sunderland (or wherever F+TH are from) is close enough for us.

Expect great things from them, including early accolades like “feelgood hit of the summer”, then a feature in an advert for something fluffy, then fame, fortune, drug dependency, and trophy wives, followed by a gradual downward spiral back into the ether of invisibility.

So catch em while you can at King Tut’s in Glasgow on April 7th, and friend em up on MySpank and Twatter.

The Hundred Metre Club - War

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

WAR by the HUNDRED METRE CLUB (@the100metreclub) :

War. What is it good for? Well, quite a lot in this case, with this steady pumper, reminiscent of Linford’s thiceps as he pumps them past the finish line.

It’s not yet been confirmed that the 100 Metre Club is a less aspirational version of the Mile High Club, where members have had their oats on a measly 5th floor hotel room, but we’re making enquiries. Nonetheless they’re got a humping, thumping groove on, with a glorious, grunting, gurning sprint finish, that’ll no doubt make you feel all sweaty but good all over. Don’t forget to wear protection mind.

Show them some love on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.

Jesus H Foxx - 001 - 09.16AM-09.19AM

JESUS H FOXX - I’M HALF THE MAN YOU WERE

Jesus H Foxx were brought to my attention when they supported The Mae Shi a couple of years ago in the cavernous Cabaret Voltaire.  I was (ashamedly) really only there to see the headline act, but their tremendous enthusiasm is a lasting memory of that evening and rivalled that of The Mae Shi, as it descended into a pile of hot mess and one very large white bed sheet.  This has a similar shake your hips vibe, and I can imagine listening to it, laying in a Cabana, drinking out of a Coconut.

You can see, hear and read about them at Off The Beaten Tracks, MySpace and at http://jesushfoxx.com/

Overseas Talent: RAED :

In the latest of our Overseas Talent showcase of some of the tough international competition new Scottish bands have to content with, this unparalleled performance and video direction is hard to beat.

We particulary like the bits where he clearly can’t think of rhyming words, so uses things like “fffnah mmmmnah” instead.

Joe Hay - carrie.mp3 (audio/mpeg Object)

CARRIE by JOE HAY

Having stumbled across this in our inbox (to be honest it was less of a stumble, and more of an intent-filled, purposeful, deliberate following of a link that was e-mailed to us, but that’s neither here nor there) I took an instant liking to it. An instant but somewhat confused liking to it.

These rhythms would sit comfortably alongside some vintage 90s, so maybe it was the time-travelling sensation that left my head befuzzled. A Fat Boy Slim esque start to the weekend. Mint.
