GROW OLD AND GO HOME by THE DOUGLAS FIRS

Not sure if growing old and going home is on the top of everyone’s urgent agenda, (in fact it would take some time, decades in fact, which defeats the urgency of the agenda in the first place) but it is very kind of The Douglas Firs to suggest we do so. They’d probably make you a cup of tea when you got there, so it wouldn’t be all wrinkles and incontinence.Wonderful.

Think of Antony and the Johnsons and Cat Power (in relation to the song that is, not the urinary problems, unless you’re sick). Maybe I’m only thinking of them, though, because the song opens with piano chords. Using that logic it could also be reminiscent of Eric Prydz : Pjanoo, but fortunately it isn’t. Yes, anyway, mix in a blizzard of Miike Snow (to tick the trendy box) and you’ve got a tune.

Listen to this when you’ve come in from a night out and need to ease yourself into a state of rest, or when you wake up the morning after and need to gently encourage yourself into a less comatosed state. Then go and check out the myspace to thank them for their nursing effect http://www.myspace.com/douglasfirsmusic.
